Overview of industrial biotechnology activities in Europe

This report is based on information gathered while developing country profiles. The main objective of the country profiles was to obtain a complete picture of the industrial biotechnology situation in terms of research and policy at Member State level.

The first part of the report explains the methodology used to collect information. The second part of the report is an analysis of what is happening in Member States to support industrial biotechnology research and biobased products market introduction and commercialisation. Finally, the third part consists of several recommendations European institutions and national Governments should implement to further support the development of a biobased economy.

Overview of the roundtables on industrial biotechnology in the new Member States and Associated Countries

As part of the FP6 specific support action supporting the SusChem - IB Technology Platform, EuropaBio organised 9 roundtables on industrial biotechnology in new Member States and associated countries.

The first part of this report explains the rationale of these roundtables as well as their objectives and organisation. The second part gives a global analysis of the situation of the industrial biotechnology sector in the new Member States and associated countries. Finally, some recommendations are expressed with the aim to further develop and strengthen industrial biotechnology in these Member States.
