The information available on this website are the results of a survey carried out in the framework of the White Biotech TP project. The survey addressed two aspects: R&D and policy.

The research part consists of an analyse of public research funding supporting industrial biotechnology research and development. It also includes a searchable data base of pilot and demonstration facilities in Europe.

The second part of country profiles concerns policy aspects. The first section describes policies and regulations having an impact on the bio-based economy. The second section addresses public procurement which can play an important role in supporting the establishment of a bio-based economy. The third section studies labelling, certification and standardisation for bio-based products. The fourth section analyses financing support for the development of a bio-based economy (investment in research, in demonstrators, etc.). The last section raises the issue of communication campaigns promoting the bio-economy.
